Hello newsletter subscribers, I apologize for using this forum so sparingly! And if you came here through my other newsletter, Don’t Rock the Inbox, I also apologize for our prolonged pause…I promise we will newsletter again some day soon.
On the book front, HER COUNTRY comes out in a little over a month…May 10th to be exact. You can pre-order, if you are so inclined, from local bookstores Bookshop (which has signed copies), Parnassus and Grimey’s. It’s also available at all the usual suspects as well. I’m really, really proud of it - the country charts might tell one story of the past twenty years, but this is another. And one driven by some of the most creative, exciting and moving artists the genre has ever known.
More events to come soon, but I will be heading to Parnassus to kick off the launch on May 10th, and hope you’ll come out to celebrate. Sign up here, as space is limited. I’ll be bringing my Don’t Tell Me to Shut Up and Sing stickers made by the amazing n.b. goods here in Nashville with me, as well as a very limited number of banners for sale as well. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Rosetta Fund to support BIPOC/LGBTQIA+ and disabled media creators.
On the editorial front, I have an interview with Miranda Lambert in Rolling Stone today, and in print in the next issue (it’s The Rolling Stone interview, a section of the magazine I studied as a text book, so this is an honor for me). I thoroughly enjoyed talking with Miranda about everything from her terrific new album to her new residency to her Queer Eye song and her whole massive career. And earlier this year, I got into it with Big Thief for the Guardian - they made an incredible, expansive album. I mention that article only because I still listen to that record daily.
Anyway, don’t worry - this newsletter isn’t a regular thing. Here a bit more than usual for the next month or two as the book launches, and then mostly back to…whatever is next. As Fiona Apple sang, kick me under the table all you want: I won’t shut up. Most importantly of all, donate to the Rainey Day, Color Me Country and Rosetta Funds.
